Late con report is late. Damn you late night Speech Comm class ~~and Persona 3~~!

AX this year had been... a lot of things. Mostly haphazard. But I do like spontaneity when it works out X) I think I've come to care less and less for panels and con events, I didn't get to go to any again and I didn't even so much as crack open the program 8D; But who needs con events when you've got fantastic company, amirite? Sadly, said company was halved this year since a great number of people I expected to see there couldn't make it; however I also met a lot of cool new people so it evened out perfectly X)

Friday

- aimless wandering around by myself before running into some Gundam people
- followed by group's intent search for the cryptically named "Site 2" whose location we only knew to be "close to Site 3"
- finally securing the location and hoping the others find it with as much success
- Gundam gathering! The turnout was much less epic than last year, but it was still fun, if not unbearably hot since we were outside.
- Soul Eater times with evanae's group! SESSY PHOTOSHOOT, at which there were many sessy people and much dicking around during downtime
- delicious Denny's dinner with evanae, nerdcore, unlock, ycysusan and asianschoolboy after spending 1 famished hour in line. Ran into Ally and JJ who were lots of fun and really sweet. Missed my photo op with JJ's Soul though ;__;
- tailing evanae's car back to her house at night with no complications woohoo!

Saturday

- more obnoxious runt tiems with evanae as Maka. I was stopped for photos more times over 2 days than I had in my entire collective cosplay history. IT WAS NICE.
- ventured into Dealer's Hall only long enough to get DELICIOUS PMK DOUJIN. I didn't know such things existed! No gunpla this time cuz by god I have at least 2.5 sets I haven't finished as;eijf
- bought a copy of the Gundam 00 anthology in Artist's Alley!
- went to Soul Eater gathering where we kind of just... hung around on the sidelines and chilled with silver_ruby lol.
- one final epic journey toward the South Hall where we were stopped another 2857 times, before saying my goodbyes and leaving the con ;__;

I don't usually post pictures of cosplay progress because I don't have much confidence in my costuming skills >_>; but this time I'll do it for the helluvit since it's the first time I'm making an outfit, assembling a prop and styling a wig.

Uhh they're pretty much shots of just the wig and like one pic of WIP sickles. I can't be bothered to photograph the rest.

I've been working on this thing off and on for the past 2 or 3 days... my very first attempt at styling a wig and I HAD to pick a spiky one to do. WHAT A MORON. I ordered the "fluffy" wig which turned out to be not fluffy at all. Fricken Asian wigs, they're always so sleek.

That really wasn't the problem, however; the wig is lopsided. It's nice and full on the right side, and pretty thin on the left. So thin that I could vaguely see some of the undermesh, and that was before I even did anything to it. I couldn't make the giganto spikes that Black Star has, since the wig's too sleek and the mesh would show even more clearly if I lifted the strands too much, so I could only make long and kinda droopy ones T__T

I was trying to do what this cosplayer did for Black Star's wig. It's kinda droopy but still looks pretty good. Mine ended up looking more like the blue variation of a Sora wig .__. A-at least I managed to get the biggest spike on top of his head 8D;

Right side's the better side. Just gotta make sure I turn my right side to the camera in shots >_>;

Left side... suffered. NOT for a lack of me trying. This is the best I could manage. u_u

B-but it doesn't look too bad from this angle?

Back side I care the least about. I'll fix it some more at con if I can be bothered to.

I haven't tried the wig on yet cuz I don't have a hairdryer and I have to give it at least a day to air dry properly. I AM SCARED FOR MY LIFE. I really hope it doesn't fall apart @____@

Sawed, cut and glued pieces today. That leaves a bit of paper-macheing to smooth out wood surface, cutting and gluing craft foam for the top part, painting the blade + handle, and attaching the chain. Please PLEASE let me have till Thursday @__@

The kids have as usual been constantly ridiculous and getting in the way of everything. They haven't gone as far as sitting on my materials like evanae's cat though XD

They did sleep on my silver Black Star belts, but at least they did so after I was done with them.

Being f'cking adorable. Sometimes they're completely maddening, and other times... they do things like this. SO EVIL.

Mackie is a pig. He eats more and sleeps more than Vi. Begs for food and talks more than Vi. He is also HUGE. For a 4 month old kitten, at least. Look at him, all sleepy and vapid looking. While Vi's hypersensitive, a little psychotic and has incredibly huge eyes. I've given then new middle names: Jayne and River. MY GEEK POWERS ARE AWESOME.

FUCK I HATE SPEECH COMMUNICATION why didn't I get it over with in freshman year T__T Now I have to take it in the summer and SUFFER TIL AUGUST UUURRGHHH

Holy shit it's been a whole page of entries without a single art dump 8D; I've had no time to do any leisure drawing for the past month and a half besides the linearts I did for the Gundam 00 anthology. For which I'll make a promo post soon :D

Anyway, I had an openCanvas network session with evanae today! It's been so long since I last had an oC session, I really should do it more often with more people. Been meaning to try pchat too. One of these days, ensuing!

We wanted to collab on something but couldn't think of anything besides FAKE which we revisited lately for Y-con cosplay XDDD

Haha we respectively drew the character we're cosplaying at Y-con: Dee by me, Ryo by her. I guess the next collab would be a Sting/Auel XDDD ACTUALLY WE SHOULD DRAW PMK, since so few people know/like it.

......I'm vaguely itching to draw for Persona 3. This is ridiculous. Putting >5 hours a day into something does NOT compel me to want to do fanart for it.

I swear to god, with every con I go to it gets harder to write a concise con report XD;

Aside from photoshoots and gatherings, very little went according to plan this Fanime. For most of the weekend I had no plan besides the intent to do a lot of homework and draw a good portion of my contribution to the gundam00 doujin anthology. Both were thwarted. I couldn't even catch the Kiuchi panel that I'd looked forward to attending. No 2nd PMK shoot with Cindy, no 2nd Soul Eater shoot with my group, no brown/ruddy hair for Lockon or Deathscythe because I apparently never got it in my head that Asian hair needs to be bleached before it could dye.

However, for how completely haphazard this con was, it was really awesome and a lot of very cool things sprang out of sheer spontaneity. There were SO many people I ran into that I didn't at all expect to see: aniki ken_smind who came from fricken DC; Jake neolordmaxwell, Rachel maridahhadiram and Lily (THE Gundam People) from the AX Gundam gathering last year, as well as the Lacus and Kira (Ariella and Jessiah, was it?) Met and hung out a bit with Colleen whitelilacs, Kristen mirai_noah and sharpie; also spoke briefly with ycysusan, cursedinanime, ziggybecket and shiroro!

The breakdown:

Friday

- travelling with ensuing, Nik and 'Tardo the retarded Kiba plush
- PMK cosplay with evanae, the CUTEST TETSU EVER T__T; lots of walking, location scouting and self-shooting; had as many as SIX photos taken of us!
- TOTALLY walked past aniki ken_smind and KNEW it was him too, but was too stunned/stupid to speak up before he passed me
- totally randomly and awesomely and by accident spotted Jake, Rachel and Lily as I waited for my ride home (my face-stalker skills are incredible. Jake didn't recognize me. XD You don't know me BUT I KNOW YOUUUUUU)
- had dinner and hung out with mom, spent the night at home

Saturday

- big Baccano! group with Minna no Anime people; a Very Special Graham, a Very Badass Ladd, and shittons of great photos
- walked around con a bit with mom
- went home to dye hair with some success
- hung out with aniki in line for masq
- AMAZING BACCANO! SKIT OF LOVE AND STUPENDOUS WIN; Minna no Nur Puppy BEST GROUP GET!

Sunday

- meeting and walking around con with paulcharcoalman
- Gundam group! Lockon, Rockon, Lockoff (spoiler!Lockon), 3 Tierias, yay Louise and Feldt! + UC and Seed love
- phonecall from naoekun in the midst of gathering ♥
- Soul Eater sweatshopping in Marriott 0701
- Soul Eater shoot with ensuing, Audrey, Jesse, Steve; THAT'S RIGHT BITCHES WE WERE THE HOTTEST GROUP THERE
- Johnny Rockets dinner
- a bit of boozin', dawdlin' and karaokein' with Jake & Co. Max's drunken karaoke (of which I have the video ;D) was EPIC. Kristen mirai_noah, thanks for singing Daybreak's Bell with me!

Monday
- final rounds of the dealer's hall; got Gankutsuou doujin and a baby Kyrios :3
- had delicious pizza at Pizza My Heart
- TOTALLY SAW tatsuta_hime THERE AND DIDN'T KNOW IT; NEXT TIME TATS. NEXT TIME.

ensuing and I are proud to announce that Orichalcum is finished and printed! We will be selling these at Fanime, however we are doing so not in Artist Alley but at shiroro's booth in the Dealers Room. She was kind enough to offer to help sell the books on our behalf, since the Fanime admin was considerate enough to inform us in late May that the Artist Alley had been full as of April. Thanks Shiroro!

Around 11:30pm on Sunday night, I brought home from Mi-ne's 2 new members of our college household.

To the left, big brother Macbeth Mustardseed Caramello Chikuwa. To the right, little sister Viola Toupe Colby-Jack. Yes, the names are a bit much. But between a Japanese girl majoring in English and a generally ridiculous omni-geek (currently taking Intro to Shakespeare), you really can't expect any different.

Kitty home setup! Heard that kittens make a mess where they eat so I made a crude eating area with a sheet of cardboard, plastic bags taped together for a waterproof layer, and a Trader Joe's paper bag on top. Wet food bowl on the far right says "I love my obedient owner" haha orz

Under Mi-ne and Charlie's firm training they came toilet-ready and perfectly willing to sleep on my bed. X) I didn't even have to put them there, I returned to my room to find them lying on my bed as though they've always slept there *3*

Mackie's coat is a dark ruddy orange with swirly/cloudy patterns, while Vi's coat is paler, with orange speckles on creamy tan. Mackie is also like, 1.3x Vi's size, because Vi's the runt of the litter. She's petite and adorable ;____;

They settled in pretty quick, had no trouble using the litterbox, eating, or roaming/playing. They clambered onto the bed and went to sleep at around 1:30am, and woke up at 7:30 when I did. X3

Day 2... they discovered the curtain.

It was a shoddy DIY job (since the retarded house did't come with blinds of any sort) so in order to not have the whole thing crashing down eventually I came up with the swiftest remedy. Thank god for clothespins 8D

Little abominations though they may be (they were in TOP FORM today. Tearing up and down my room, the curtain, my leg...) they sure are cute as all hell when they're asleep. T3T

I JUST MARATHONED THE LAST 8 EPISODES OF CODE GEASS. FUCKSHITFUCKAS;EIJF GOD IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD AND I HAVE NO COHERENCE. My heart was blasted into a million pieces, melded back together, then wrung and thoroughly battered in the last 8 eps. I haven't experienced anything like this since Gankutsuou. GOD DAMN.

WEEEEELL SO MUCH FOR QUITTING ANIME. I'll be keeping up with Code Geass R2 and Soul Eater this season, at the very least. As well as new season of House! Woohoo! X)

art dump #128 - original - Orichalcum [6]

While I've been dying from backed up projects in advertising and rotting in the photography darkroom, I have in fact been accumulating material for Orichalcum. I just didn't actually have any time till after the quarter's over to post all this stuff. DX

The setting in brief: Chinese steampunk in the Qing dynasty, late 1800s. I've altered the history so that the Chinese were the first to discover/innovate flight. Through dirigible technology. In short, SPEED BLIMPS!

Sketches of said speed blimps. I like the bottom left one most, but it resonates too much of vanships from Last Exile >_> so I decided on the model to its right. Top left model is the 1st existing "blimpette" prototype.

Protagonist Prototype 1. Initially I had only 1 primary character who's both pilot and engineer, but found the design too generic and that I needed at least 2 characters.

So I split Prototype 1 into 2 characters 8D This here is the ace pilot. Confident, bold, and a bit full of himself. The face shot next to him is the protagonist XDD Pilot doesn't have a name yet, gah DX I have no experience picking Chinese names and I don't want them to sound retarded D8

...And the protagonist. Who's a little less fetching than the pilot *snrk* He's an aerospace engineer so I gave him a more practical mechanic-like outfit with big pockets. The middle strip in the 1st design looked too gimmicky so I took it away. Kept the hat from Prototype 1 XD

Expressions chart whoo! Did this when copping out of doing storyboards cuz this is way easier XD; His face is too short in the top right sketch so he looks a bit retarded ahaha 8D;

And sketches to test out the ink pen my teacher lent me. The oldschool kind where you have to dip the nib into the well every half minute XD I liked using it but it would've taken too long on the whole comic so I hadda pass =/

Okay, anybody have any experience with Chinese names? I need help naming my Pilot, Engineer and Engineer's Dad DX
