THE CON REPORT OF DOOOOOOOMMMMM

With each passing year it gets harder to write these things. This year's Fanime in brief was a whirlwind. There were wins and fails of epic proportions, absolutely nothing was done on time, there was NO TIME to get done all that needed to be done, and most of the 3.5 days was spent getting swept from one place/event/shoot to another. For the most part I loved it! (In much the same way that I love pain and stress and adrenalin rushes). I spent 3 nights in 3 different hotel rooms, met a ton of awesome new people, spent time with some of my favorite friends, participated in my 1st masquerade skit, ate way too much McDonalds and got virtually no swag -- it was generally an awesome and eventful con.

Oh also throughout the whole duration of con I had to myself a total of 3 Souls. BFF CORNUCOPIA

Went to cursedinanime's house today for sewing/wigging party with her and chynoi. HOW DO I KEEP DOING THIS?

A great first Yaoi Con! And... possibly the most enjoyable con this year?? I had no doubt that it was gonna be laid back, since I knew it's a small con (and even smaller than I expected when I actually got there)... so at worst I thought it'd be, y'know, boring. I stand delightfully corrected! It was relaxing, and fun, and since there was so little to do at con I had plenty of time for friends! XDDD (No, there's actually no sarcasm in that sentence.)

Purely logistically, why this con was awesome:

- the con was at the hotel, so no stress over commuting between the 2 places
- hotel has only 6 floors so elevator situation was never a problem
- downtown area is relatively close and has numerous affordable dining options
- con was so small and con activities so few that I was perfectly happy to not pay for registration XDDD

The Breakdown!

Friday

- arrived in San Mateo after a 3 hour drive from SLO, on 3 hours of sleep, after a stressful night of final work on Sting jacket, and fully prepared to CHILLAX
- helped evanae get into her MANBOOBAGE and wandered around as Auel and Sting
- found very little to do around the con venue, thus stopping at every artsy looking corner/area and taking a lot of our own photos lul yay self-sufficiency
- spent much of our time in the lounge area, waiting, sitting, dawdling and talking to silvernaofficer about RP LOL
- Round Table pizza!
- and finally, after technical difficulties and much delay, we has a JetJet!!!! The best way to wrap up the evening.

Saturday

- spent the morning as Kamio with the Fudoumine shirt mikage kindly lent me
- found and chatted with Hyoutei people OMG NO WAY TENNIS COSPLAYERS STILL EXIST!
- ran into yafromuk and again later with the whole gang in tow!
- got into sexy mustard yellow and spent the afternoon doing sexy retarded fabulous Rikkai D1 with mikage around the Marriott grounds!
- spoke to tenshiyaki for the first time since finding out that OMG she's friends with my cousin LOL SMALL WORLD
- tailed the Weiss Kreuz group with naoekun, reminiscing on AMAZING GAY 90S WEISS TIMES
- went downtown for Japanese food with evanae and mikage; Niou at the wheel? RUN FOR YOUR LIVES Not as bad as you might think save for a couple of wrong turns
- Yagyuu!mikage bought me a Washington Apple at the bar! ;__; MY BOYFRIEND IS THE BEST BOYFRIEND EVER ♥♥♥
- played a super intense game of foot wrestling with a slightly tipsy hellmaster05
- ended up missing Charla's (unlock+nerdcore) drinking party and just... took shots of Skyy with Jet and Nori on the courtyard lawn (and made the quickest escape on all fours anyone has ever witnessed-- from a small arachnid. I scraped my knee sob)
- at some points moved to someone's room, (yoshikochan's I think), switched wigs with Nori, moved to the lounge, drank some more, took a walk, and finally went to sleep thoroughly smashed. A VERY FULL DAY.

Sunday

- was woken 5 minutes before my phone alarm by a headache T__T
- got back into Niou for PoT gathering where, after whitelilacs and tenshiyaki showed up in mustard yellow, RIKKAI WAS THE BIGGEST TEAM THERE WITH 5 MEMBERS-- AND SEIGAKU THE SMALLEST WITH 1 FUJI. MY DREAM CANON. (j/k I love Seigaku too I just love Rikkai WAY more T__T) Also THERE WAS SEIRU AND DUCKTSUSHI SO AMAZING
- was treated by Jet to delectable tea and pastries at the Host Club Cafe; the whole setup was so adorable and nice and fun ;___; also EPIC SHOWDOWN RIKKAI VS. SEIGAKU during which Tezuka from our neighboring table and I exchanged heated glares over scones and tea-- s-shut up it was epic in my mind okay T__T They later started singing Hyoutei songs WRONG ROYAL COURT, FOOLS
- was somehow suckered by tasu into Jousei Shounan cosplay OTL OTL OTL
- finally had to get out of Niou (I was getting really attached to that wig sniff), saw off Nori and spent the last of Y-con chilling with peoples in the courtyard
- byebye Yaoi Con ;^;

AX this year had been... a lot of things. Mostly haphazard. But I do like spontaneity when it works out X) I think I've come to care less and less for panels and con events, I didn't get to go to any again and I didn't even so much as crack open the program 8D; But who needs con events when you've got fantastic company, amirite? Sadly, said company was halved this year since a great number of people I expected to see there couldn't make it; however I also met a lot of cool new people so it evened out perfectly X)

Friday

- aimless wandering around by myself before running into some Gundam people
- followed by group's intent search for the cryptically named "Site 2" whose location we only knew to be "close to Site 3"
- finally securing the location and hoping the others find it with as much success
- Gundam gathering! The turnout was much less epic than last year, but it was still fun, if not unbearably hot since we were outside.
- Soul Eater times with evanae's group! SESSY PHOTOSHOOT, at which there were many sessy people and much dicking around during downtime
- delicious Denny's dinner with evanae, nerdcore, unlock, ycysusan and asianschoolboy after spending 1 famished hour in line. Ran into Ally and JJ who were lots of fun and really sweet. Missed my photo op with JJ's Soul though ;__;
- tailing evanae's car back to her house at night with no complications woohoo!

Saturday

- more obnoxious runt tiems with evanae as Maka. I was stopped for photos more times over 2 days than I had in my entire collective cosplay history. IT WAS NICE.
- ventured into Dealer's Hall only long enough to get DELICIOUS PMK DOUJIN. I didn't know such things existed! No gunpla this time cuz by god I have at least 2.5 sets I haven't finished as;eijf
- bought a copy of the Gundam 00 anthology in Artist's Alley!
- went to Soul Eater gathering where we kind of just... hung around on the sidelines and chilled with silver_ruby lol.
- one final epic journey toward the South Hall where we were stopped another 2857 times, before saying my goodbyes and leaving the con ;__;

I swear to god, with every con I go to it gets harder to write a concise con report XD;

Aside from photoshoots and gatherings, very little went according to plan this Fanime. For most of the weekend I had no plan besides the intent to do a lot of homework and draw a good portion of my contribution to the gundam00 doujin anthology. Both were thwarted. I couldn't even catch the Kiuchi panel that I'd looked forward to attending. No 2nd PMK shoot with Cindy, no 2nd Soul Eater shoot with my group, no brown/ruddy hair for Lockon or Deathscythe because I apparently never got it in my head that Asian hair needs to be bleached before it could dye.

However, for how completely haphazard this con was, it was really awesome and a lot of very cool things sprang out of sheer spontaneity. There were SO many people I ran into that I didn't at all expect to see: aniki ken_smind who came from fricken DC; Jake newcenturysace, Rachel maridahhadiram and Lily (THE Gundam People) from the AX Gundam gathering last year, as well as the Lacus and Kira (Ariella and Jessiah, was it?) Met and hung out a bit with Colleen whitelilacs, Kristen mirai_noah and mikage; also spoke briefly with ycysusan, cursedinanime, ziggybecket and shiroro!

- PMK cosplay with evanae, the CUTEST TETSU EVER T__T; lots of walking, location scouting and self-shooting; had as many as SIX photos taken of us!
- TOTALLY walked past aniki ken_smind and KNEW it was him too, but was too stunned/stupid to speak up before he passed me
- totally randomly and awesomely and by accident spotted Jake, Rachel and Lily as I waited for my ride home (my face-stalker skills are incredible. Jake didn't recognize me. XD You don't know me BUT I KNOW YOUUUUUU)
- had dinner and hung out with mom, spent the night at home

UWAH. Quite possibly the most eventful, fun (and tiring) con I've ever been to. XD I brought more costumes, did more things, sold more posters and books, hung out with more people, it was so much MORE than all the Fanimes I've attended in previous years. It was some kinda CRAAAZY.

For once I'm going to be timely with this whole con-reporting and photo-posting deal and start now. (I think it's because this is the first year post-con that I don't care about the homework I ought to be doing.) But before I start I'll make a coupla quick shoutouts and thankyous to some awesome-pawsome people:

- 5pkbc artist circle peeps, and Little David, for being such great, fun, and thoughtful Fanime roommates. Thanks so much for saving me a spot on the bed for all 3 nights ;___;

So Friday, Ahn, Nur and I packed our shiz in Nur's little car, grabbed donuts and made for San Jose at around 8:30am, arriving close to noon. Secured our artist alley table (which was in the first row, and like, the 5th from the door this year. SCORE.), got our hotel room, went back and lugged our shiz back to the room, and we were ready for some CON AKSHUN!

But before that, I went home for lunch, then headed to Palo Alto for an internship interview with Threestory Studio, which I... was late to, thanks to my spectacular planning skills and marvellous foresight. ( Note to self: if you're going to use Google, you might as well GET DIRECTIONS. )

...Truthfully, the biggest deal on Friday was really just the internship. The rest of the day was pretty low-key; went home for dinner, chatted with my mom while I worked on some of the final details on my Katz cos, and went back around 9pm. Hung out for a bit with naoekun and nerdcore at their swapmeet spot, got my Crot jacket (which is UTTER AWESOMESAUCE) from Jet, went back to the hotel room, and worked on my Katz cos some more until I crashed. XD;;

So that means NO FOTOS. Not in this post anyway. Sorry guys. Next post will have loads, though, and I think I may be able to post them with report part deux tonight. =D

On an unrelated note, to naoekun: you probably won't see this before your midterm but GANBA GANBA!! You know how my schedule's like, so totally call me after or something if you wanna talk/vent/spaz ♥

So yes, I've been totally neglecting my poor personal LJ, and I'm way way behind on posting Fanime photos and such. u_u;;

I also realize that I won't be writing a post-Fanime report type thinggie, since I stalled too long and I can't recall as readily as I obviously could say, a few days after the con as opposed to a month. *d0lt* Though, I'll specify the highlights: rooming with the crew of the 5pkbc, as well as Steebu, Lil David and jennmenchi, it was a riot XD; for every Tricycle Box book and HP print sold at artist's alley -granted, it isn't much, but it's a start-; the HAWT Gankutsuou group and the BADASS Blade of the Immortal group, imagine my fangasm when I saw them; Bishounen Bingo with jennmenchi, that was quite the experience *sporfle*; getting stopped for pictures -my Samurai Sphere Paine got quite a bit more attention this time than 2 years ago-; Bleach gathering, even though I only got there at the tail end of it; meeting up with nerdcore by accident, and twice too (because I have mad stalking skillz). That was exciting XDD

The downers-- well... mostly the fact that the quality and variety of cosplay seems to be steadily diminishing over the years. >_>; Masquerade too. Man. Don't get me started on the masquerade. At least the AMVs were pretty good this year. =)

Since I have 34 photos in my old 35mm camera batch, I'll put up those first. The digicam ones will be in the next fotozpam. Apologies for the horrible quality of most of the pics. >_<;

So yeah, due to obsession with polychromatic I totally forgot to mention lately that I'm gonna be at Fanime from Friday to early Monday. The 5pkbc and I will be manning our table (I forgot what number >_>) to sell our comics and prints. So if any of you guys are gonna be there, do drop by and say hi ^__^
